Science
At ESSA, we currently do an AQA ELC qualification in Year 10, while co-teaching the GCSE content.
Once students are in Year 11 we then prepare them for a Foundation GCSE.
Science helps us understand the world around us and gives us the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions in everyday life. At East Sussex Skills Academy, our Science curriculum is designed to be engaging, practical and relevant, helping every student build confidence through investigation and discovery.
Students explore a range of topics across biology, chemistry and physics, developing scientific knowledge alongside practical skills through experiments and hands-on learning. Lessons encourage curiosity, problem solving and independent thinking, helping students understand how science influences the world we live in.
Students will work towards qualifications that reflect their individual learning pathway, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to achieve success.
With Science at ESSA we strive to:
- Develop pupils enquiring minds so that they can increase their knowledge and understanding of natural phenomena
- Link the specification to all vocational subjects at East Sussex Skills Academy
- Reinforce the syllabus and make links to potential careers in these areas
- Allow pupils to acquire scientific skills, learn to problem solve and learn to make informed judgements
- Encourage each pupil to have an appreciation, care and concern for other pupils, animals, plants and the environment
- Prepare students for public examinations
- Enable all pupils to achieve their maximum potential
